Copy Editing

You don't want typos in your submitted manuscript. That is the first reason it will be rejected by either a literary agent or an acquisitions editor. You are advised to hire a copy editor if you feel you may have typos.

I am also a very experienced copy editor. That was my first trade as a freelance editor, and I have worked on more than 300 published books. For a basic copy edit, I will correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling. I also keep a list of characters’ names and technical terms. I use the Merriam-Webster dictionary and the Chicago Manual of Style as my main references. While I will make sure the text is consistent, I am flexible in terms of areas where the author indicates a preference, such as serial commas, and I keep a list of those variants. Along with the edited manuscript I will include a style sheet in case of future proofreading needs.
